Heart of Missouri United Way Tornado Relief Funds
Under the leadership of Brent Beshore, a board member of the Heart of Missouri United Way in Columbia, Missouri, the “United for Joplin” tornado relief fund was established immediately following the May 22 tornado.

The Heart of Missouri United Way established an Investment Review Team to serve as an ad-hoc disaster relief committee of their board.
Initially the review team’s focus was on reacting to, replenishing, and replacing damages caused by the storm.  Currently the team is shifting their focus to rebuilding and reconstructing homes, lives, and spirits.

The Investment Review Team consists of Mark Rohr, Joplin City Manager; Sara Cousins, a nurse on duty at St. John’s on May 22; Andy Perigo, United Way of Southwest Missouri & Southeast Kansas Board Treasurer; and Jerrod Hogan, Bright Futures.  The Investment Review Team reviews applications and determines how to best allocate these funds.

Working in partnership with the Heart of Missouri United Way, the United Way of Southwest Missouri & Southeast Kansas serves as the fiscal agent for these funds.  Neither United Way charges an administrative fee to process these funds.  Not-for-profit and for-profit organizations that have provided tornado relief services may apply for these funds.
