Pittsburg Community Child Care Learning Center
A four year old enrolled at the Pittsburg Community Child Care Learning Center was withdrawn and didn’t always respond when talked to. The staff felt he was having problems with his hearing and recommended that the mother have his hearing checked. Tests found that he had severe hearing loss in both ears from birth. It came out that hearing loss runs in his dad’s family. He was recently fitted with hearing aids, and it has already made a difference. His self-esteem has improved, and he seems happier, interacts, and talks more. Thankfully, his handicap was discovered before he started kindergarten in the fall with a disadvantage. It is because of funding from the United Way that enabled staff to recognize a problem.

• Five pairs of warm pajamas for a child, who has only the clothes’ on their back.

• A set of grab rails to make a bathroom more accessible for a disabled or elderly individual.
• Two Big Brothers Big Sisters activities for a match.
